ORV Alguita departed this evening from Long Beach, CA for a three week research voyage to the "Eastern Garbage Patch." During the voyage the ships research team will collect samples to study the growing amount of plastic debris in the Pacific Gyre. Alguita is scheduled to arrive in Hilo, Hawaii in the end of September.
